Rhinoplasty
The most popular male cosmetic procedure in the U.S. is rhinoplasty.
The popularity of all plastic surgery procedures have continued
to increase among all groups, including men wishing to benefit
from physical alterations such as a rhinoplasty. A shifting
attitude towards plastic surgery as a whole has allowed people
to benefit from the results of a rhinoplasty.
There are many motivations behind wanting a rhinoplasty procedure
but in most instances the individual is unhappy with the size
of their nose in proportion to the rest of their nose or a
certain aspect of their nose, such as the nostrils or nose
tip, are visually displeasing to them. A rhinoplasty candidate
should have an image of what they would like to achieve through
the rhinoplasty so that a surgeon will be able to communicate
if these results are achievable. Individuals should understand
the limitations and restrictions that a rhinoplasty has and
while the results can be drastic there are always risks and
uncertainties that accompany a surgical procedure.
During an initial consultation with the rhinoplasty surgeon,
the individual should be open to discuss all aspects of the
rhinoplasty with them. The more information provided to the
rhinoplasty surgeon, the better the surgeon will understand
what the goals of the rhinoplasty is. In addition, any and
all medical conditions should be discussed with the rhinoplasty
surgeon to best allow a safe operation. Your rhinoplasty surgeon
will complete a thorough medical examination to determine
any individual factors that can influence the outcome of the
procedure.
After the rhinoplasty surgeon determines the individual is
a strong candidate for the rhinoplasty procedure the actual
surgery will be scheduled. This will not occur until both
the surgeon and patient is confident that a rhinoplasty will
benefit that individual while maintaining a low risk for complication.
Instructions prior to the rhinoplasty will be given to better
assure the patient's experience is as comfortable and safe
as possible. Failing to adhere to these preoperative instructions
can result in less satisfying results and a surgeon can make
the choice to postpone the rhinoplasty because of it.
Based on what the individual wishes the final outcome of
the rhinoplasty to be, the results can be subtle or extremely
dramatic. The majority of rhinoplasty patients wish to have
the appearance of a natural nose that blends well with their
other features. Some patients will have a rhinoplasty performed
in conjunction with another cosmetic surgery procedure to
better balance their facial features.
Following a rhinoplasty the patient should expect to have
bruising and swelling and must adjust normal activities until
it is safe to resume. Noticeable results of the rhinoplasty
should appear within a few weeks of the procedure but patients
should expect it to take up to an entire year before seeing
the end results. The pleasing results of a rhinoplasty are
permanent, excluding the natural aging process that will occur,
which some people like to combat with minor touchups through
the years.
